I need a job.

I have started looking for a part-time job and so far I am discouraged. I am not sure how to fill out an application. How do I explain an 11 year gap in employment? And I sure am not going to put any of the 16 jobs I had in the 3 years I was just doesn't look good. I am going to the workforce developement center tomorrow; maybe that will help.

I did get my hopes up a bit when I saw an add for a job houskeeping nude or just in underwear. I know how to clean a house, plus I can supply my own uniform! However, as I read further, I saw that they wanted a young male for the job. Sigh.
Isn't it against the law to to not hire someone because of their gender? Whatver.....

Your sense of humor is splendid. :)

As for explaining the "gap"; I would suggest simply stating that you've been working a job as a mother. What job is greater than that, really? I know that may not fix the anxiety associated with the knowledge you have of not working during what you call a gap, but truthfully, if someone is going to nose around in other than the basics of hiring (they cannot ask about mental health) than that is not a place for you.

So take care of you and just say what you are comfortable with sharing and go from there. I believe that the right thing comes along and you'll know it when it happens.

Good for you for being proactive in your quest....just be kind and gentle with you.

i don't really know how to clean a house well -- so you're way ahead of me.

what kind of part-time jobs are you looking for? i think you're looking to get a CNA? are you looking for something part-timey just to bring in some $$$?

Isn't the fact that you're a mum a good reason for a gap in your employment history? You can talk about the skills it takes to organise a household to your advantage, seriously.

I am also looking for a part-time job and I'm totally with you on the stress associated with wondering if I'm filling out the application correctly, etc. You have the lovely experience of being a mother to explain the eleven-year gap though -- lots and lots of people take time off from work to raise children. The advantage you have over many of the others is that you are still young and computer-literate.

Also, I totally love you humor!! :)

Best of luck on looking for and finding a job -- and don't let it get you down if it takes a while because it seems to really suck out there right now. Something will come along eventually :)
